Few names in the sporting world carry as much weight as Muhammad Ali, widely recognized as the greatest boxer to ever lace up a pair of gloves. And as with so many other superstars throughout history, his childhood home played a pivotal role in shaping the legacy he would leave behind.

Now, that humble residence in Louisville, Kentucky, could be yours.

“A part of Americana”

If you’re interested in purchasing the home where Ali spent his formative years, there’s good news: it went on the market earlier this week. But before you put in an offer, there are a few details you should consider:

  • It’s a package deal and includes two neighboring homes.
  • The little pink house has one bathroom and two bedrooms.
  • Its current owner wants $1.5 million for all three properties.

So could you actually live in the home if you bought it? Maybe … but co-owner George Bochetto said “the best possible result” would be finding someone willing to preserve it and maintain the museum that has been established at the location.

One of the neighboring properties is a welcome center and gift shop while the other was converted into a short-term rental home.

“This is a part of Americana,” Bochetto added. “This is part of our history. And it needs to be treated and respected as such.”

More than just a home

Chances are, you remember the home where you spent much of your childhood. And for Ali, it was the same. This residence was where he first imagined entering the ring as a professional pugilist — and he was still living there when he competed in the 1960 Olympics.

More than half a century later, hundreds of mourners showed up to the home to pay their respects during his funeral procession.
