In the age of rapidly evolving technology, there’s plenty of concern swirling around about whether artificial intelligence will take over human jobs or even replace humans altogether. But before we reach any of those potential dystopias, there could be a bright spot brewing for office workers fed up with the number of Zoom calls they’re forced to attend.

Let AI handle that

Early Chirp has shared reports in the past regarding the way many professionals are using AI to ease some of their stress at work. But the CEO of Zoom thinks there’s an as-yet untapped use for this emerging tech.

In fact, Eric Yuan believes his video-conferencing firm is poised to become an “AI-first company” and workers in the near future will be able to virtually attend Zoom meetings.

“Let’s say the team is waiting for the CEO to make a decision or maybe some meaningful conversation, my digital twin really can represent me and also can be part of the decision-making process,” he speculated.

And it all stems from so-called “large language models,” which serve as the source of information for AI chatbots and assistants that exist today. Since the latest platforms behave and sound almost exactly like humans, Yuan’s vision for the future doesn’t sound far-fetched at all.

Individualized LLMs

While the current models feeding information to AI interfaces are generalized, Yuan thinks the natural evolution of things will involve allowing people to customize them in order to replicate their individual quirks and mannerisms.

“I should have my own LLM — Eric’s LLM, Nilay’s LLM — all of us, we will have our own LLM,” he said. “Essentially, that’s the foundation for the digital twin.”

And when that process is perfected, you might be able to send your high-tech doppelganger to attend meetings for you.
