If you’re a long-time fan of Chipotle, one aspect you’ve likely enjoyed is the portion sizes. The chain gained a reputation for piling bowls and stuffing burritos with as much meat, cheese, beans, and guac (for an additional cost, of course) as possible.

But in the age of “shrinkflation,” even Chipotle isn’t immune — at least that’s what some frustrated customers say.

And in response to the perception that portion sizes have been diminishing lately, there’s a new TikTok trend some influencers say will help restore those meals to their formerly heaping helpings.

Candid camera

You won’t have to look too far on the social media app to find footage of people pulling out smartphones to record a Chipotle worker making their orders. And if they don’t think the portions are up to snuff, they’ll simply walk out without paying or receiving their food.

Others, including popular TikTok food critics, have given the chain lower marks recently based largely on smaller portions. But before you put a worker on the spot and threaten to leave unless you get what you believe is your money’s worth, listen to what the company has to say.

Don’t even bother

Naturally, Chipotle is pushing back against allegations that its portions are shrinking. Furthermore, the company insisted that you won’t be getting a bigger scoop if you start recording its staff.

In an attempt to make light of the minor controversy, Chipotle posted a social media video of its own, but from the perspective of a worker looking out at a crowd of customers all recording the process on their phones.

“POV u work at Chipotle rn,” the video’s caption stated.

In any case, Chipotle’s stock price has spiked 44% over the past year, so it’s clear that plenty of fans are still loading up.
