Is it the Robotaxi?
Tesla has been teasing its self-driving technology, but it was a little late to the game in its plans for an autonomous taxi. Rivals Cruise and Waymo have long been operating such vehicles in various communities — but Tesla wants to make up for lost time.
A lot of buzz has surrounded the release of Tesla’s Robotaxi, which is reportedly going to be unveiled next month. And when one social media user shared an image reportedly snapped near the Warner Bros. movie studio, rumors began to fly that it showed the highly anticipated vehicle.
Tesla in disguise
It’s important to clarify that Tesla did not confirm that the vehicle pictured on X was its Robotaxi. And these days, there’s good reason to be wary of what you see on social media.
But self-styled experts have chimed in with their takes, and the growing consensus seems to be that this is likely the Robotaxi.
If that’s the case, then it’s probably been heavily modified to keep its true appearance under wraps (literally) until the big reveal.
Although any of these features could feasibly make their way onto the finished product, some of the features that caught the internet’s attention included:
- The large bump on its roof
- An odd indentations in the hood
- A very boxy rear-end design
Add in the bright yellow color, and it’s hard to tell what the vehicle underneath actually looks like.
Right place, right time
Another reason so many people believe this photo shows the Robotaxi is because Tesla confirmed last month that it would unveil the vehicle from the Warner Bros. 110-acre lot, which was coincidentally where the picture was taken.
