Exercise equipment from treadmills to stationary bikes can be an excellent way to get some cardio, but they’re inherently pretty boring devices. For generations, users have turned to TV or books as a way to pass the time while working up a sweat — and companies like Peloton have utilized technology to help integrate various forms of entertainment directly into their fitness products.

Now, a collaboration with Amazon has ushered in another step in that direction.

Reading while you walk (or pedal)

If you’ve ever tried to read from an old-school paper book or even the latest tablet while on a treadmill or bike, you’ve probably found the process somewhat cumbersome. That’s why Peloton is now providing a new feature in its Bike, Bike Plus, Tread, and Tread Plus products that will allow users to access their Amazon Kindle libraries directly from the device.

For those with access, which is limited to the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and Austria for now, all it takes is opening the Kindle app in the Peloton’s Entertainment tab and selecting the desired book. Additional features include adding bookmarks, changing the font size, and skipping chapters.

The end of audiobook domination?

Whether it’s music, a podcast, or an audiobook, gyms are always full of people on cardio machines with their headphones cranked up. But now it’s possible for folks who prefer to see what they’re reading to do so without adding yet another device to the equation.

“No more awkwardly holding a book or Kindle e-reader while trying to maintain proper form,” Amazon said when announcing the new feature.

Peloton’s Entertainment tab is already home to a range of other apps, including YouTube and other popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney Plus, and Max.
