From The Warzone To Gamescom

Iryna Bilous and Nika Avayan went from Ukraine to the largest gaming conference in the world. Gamescom provides a large platform for developers to show off their latest titles in hopes of expanding brand and game awareness.

Avayan, the Chief Operating Officer of Frogwares studio, left her small village near Bucha in Ukraine shortly after Vladimir Putin orchestrated the invasion of Ukraine.

How Unique The Situation Is

Iryna and Nika were allowed to leave the country and attend Gamescom because they are women; due to martial law, their male colleagues are mostly banned from currently leaving Ukraine.

Four members of the Frogwares team joined the Ukrainian armed forces at the beginning of the invasion and remain with the military at this time.

All the airports in Ukraine are currently destroyed, meaning the two Frogsware members had to take a train to Warsaw, then catch a flight to Frankfurt, Germany then travel to Gamescom in Cologne. They had to wait for over 11 hours to leave Ukraine for Poland, nearly making them late for Gamescom.

The team is launching the new title Sherlock Holmes The Awakened. Frogwares is a studio of roughly 80 employees, with some living in cities occupied by Russian troops, making communication difficult.
