For decades in the United States; politicians, parents, and those wishing to deflect from the real causes of behavioral issues (aka violent conduct) blamed video games as the cause of children acting violently while ignoring adults commit the majority of mass violence within the country.

study entitled Video game players have improved decision-making abilities and enhanced brain activities in the September 2022 issue of Neuroimage: Reports finds...well...what the title of the published piece states.

The results of the study are clear, 'video game players have increased decision accuracy and reduced response time.' Directly from the research:

Both groups showed increased response time as difficulty level increased. For all conditions and overall performance, VGP [video game - players] had faster response times and higher accuracy than NVGP. VGP were significantly more accurate than NVGP [non video game - players] for task performance overall (by 2.24 ± 6.87%) and easy condition tasks (7.12 ± 5.38%).

What does all this mean for the gaming community? Straightforward, it means science shows positive brain functions from playing video games. That is not an excuse to play games for an excessive amount of time (unless that's your job, but in that case, one shouldn't work too hard), but it shows the benefits of gaming.

TLDR; play video games; your brain will thank you.
