Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan enjoys diving headfirst into authoritarianism, ironic since relations between him and the non democratically elected Vladimir Putin of Russia are pretty good despite some complications.

Erdogan, whose Turkey is a huge trading partner with Russia, is now using the unanimous consent rule of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to possibly block Finland and Sweden from joining the alliance, which would appease Putin greatly. At a Monday news conference, Erdogan said the following regarding the Scandinavian countries' applications to join NATO. "We [Turkey] will not say ‘yes’ to those [countries] who apply sanctions to Turkey to join security organisation NATO."

Erdogan is a bit mad that Sweden decided to suspend arms sales to Turkey in 2019 because he was busy leading forces into Syria and making that entire situation worse and more complicated. Erodgan also claims Finland and Sweden harbor the terrorist group Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Ironic enough, Erdogan has faced the condemnation of the global leaders due to his brutal treatment of the Kurdish. Yeah, it's quite bad.

It's going to be a messy situation. If Turkey follows through and blocks Finland and Sweden from joining NATO, which would grant them protection in the event Putin attempts to invade the nations.
